Magic
-The common folk tend to hate/fear magic. Generally just arcane magic as their exposure to divine magic comes in the form of healing their injuries and curing their sick grandmother, and when people know magic is going on arcane tends to be a bit more flashy. So often regular folk will discriminate against magic users (again generally arcanists) to the full extent that they can while not inciting flashy death.
-Teleport spells/effects work slightly differently in the birthright setting as one cannot travel through the non-existant Astral Plane (see below). Instead, any thing with the teleportation subschool travels through the Shadow World, and while instantaneous in the material world it is not so quick in the Shadow. And the Shadow World is a dangerous place and any time spent there can get a mortal in trouble, and the farther one travels there with teleportation causes more time spent lingering in Shadow World thus increasing the danger.
-Spiritual Weapon and similar spells that use the caster’s casting stat modifier to determine an effect or bonus but doesn’t actually say such (like Spiritual Weapon), and thus have become less forward compatible with new classes that might use a similar spell list but uses a different stat to control their casting; now use the caster’s main stat to determine said effect.
-Sanctuary, the discussion on this left sort of a bad taste so I’m changing my mind a little. Any aggressive action, defined as any kind of attack that does (or leads to) damage or a debuff (whether from mundane or magical sources) is considered an attack and therefore breaks the spell.
-Item creation feats are allowed, however only items from the core rulebook can be created and no custom items either. I will be throwing in a lot of items from other sources, including the 3.5 magic item compendium. These items represent older, extra complex, unstable or otherwise difficult means of weaving magic to an object that anyone who has not spent an entire lifetime practicing cannot accomplish.
-I am going to take away your toys occasionally. Whether sundered, stolen or flat out disjuncted; accept it, move on. I am going to try to keep the wealth level up there so you’re not actually losing power, but its gonna happen.
-The Astral Plane doesn’t exist in the birthright setting so anything dealing with it also does not exist, the only exception is teleport spells which function slightly differently (see above).
